Empowering Local Girls through Self-Defense

On Monday we held an amazingly empowering self-defense seminar for tween and teen girls. This free seminar was almost 2 hours long and 26 girls were learning about awareness and how to avoid getting into a bad situation, for example:
 - staying safe at home and outside
 - breaking daily routine
 - internet safety
 - keeping open communication line with parents and more

They were also learning about what to do when a stranger approaches them, for example:
 - keeping distance in between you and the stranger
 - not agreeing on going with them
 - surrendering wallet, jewelry or gadgets as they are replaceable and running away
 - using hands and voice to keep the stranger away

Girls worked with each other on scenarios when someone crosses their safe distance and learned that their voice is their biggest weapon and that they can use specific simple words to keep the stranger away.

Finally, they were practicing and learning what to do when someone actually grabs them. They were learning about turning themselves into a fighting champion and do anything and everything in their power to stay safe and not become another victim. They learned about how to use their body as a weapon and practiced striking kicking and punching bags.

In the end all girls got to break a large wooden board that simulated what power is needed to break attackers nose.

All of them did an amazing job and here is what one mom wrote about her daughters' experiences: "What a great experience for both of my girls. For Erica, what a confidence builder to help teach a class like this and get to be in charge of her big sis and her friends. For my older daughter and the 6 others I claim as my own, I am so glad that they now feel more confident in their abilities."

If you have a group that is interested in learning about self-defense, don't hesitate to contact us at 817-488-6009.

26 local girls from Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine and Keller learned a great deal about dealing with a dangerous situation.
